As Geoff Burke spoke service providers at the recent OPASTCO winter convention, they mentioned four primary revenue-generating services that came up continuously in their quest for new revenue streams. In adopting the new USF/ICC Order, the FCC valiantly sought to set a new, forward-looking policy course and create greater market certainty. Unfortunately, the Commission was only successful in part: you’re going to have to hit a moving target. That said, it can be done, and there are real opportunities for those who succeed.

Now that we are in the first week of 2012 and are still trying to get “Auld Lang Syne” out of our heads, it makes sense to look back on 2011 trends and their potential meaning as we plan for the coming year. Certainly, it was an eventful year for both Calix and the telecommunications industry, with a plethora of issues, the effects of which we will all feel for years to come.
