More on Fiber Optic Cable Lashing: Preparing your outside plant
John Perry, a program manager for Atlantic Engineering, and star of last week's cable lashing blog post had a quick follow up to his video. He wanted to make sure our viewers understood that there's a bit more work to the process of preparing your outside plant than showing up and hanging cable. He briefly outlines the four steps below:
- A “Power Engineering Firm” reviews all outside plant, looking for clearance issues (low over roads, farm entrances, etc.), deteriorated poles, and so forth.
- The client reviews this survey, and either with in-house crews or outside contractors, performs the “make ready” work.
- Fiber design is performed concurrently with the above, such that...
- A contractor is hired to build the fiber optic system, who then reviews the make ready construction, looking for any last issues needing corrective action, and then builds the strand and fiber.
Granted, the above is a simplified version of reality, but it is a general oversight…..
If you're in the process of installing a new FTTP deployment, we'd love to see your videos! Submit them to blogs (at) calix.com.
